Projects: Rector Street
This was an incredibly challenging project. We took a house built in 1900 that probably hadn’t seen any significant work in the last 50 years and completely turned it around.
When we started the project, the back side of the house was floating – the ground was completely eroded because of a lack of gutters, and the foundation had given way (a combination of the water problems, age, and a family of groundhogs who had tunneled into the basement). The basement floors were rotten and/or termite infested, the house had knob and tube electric, and many cosmetic problems.
All structural, electrical, and cosmetic problems were fixed, we added 900 square feet of living space by finishing the basement, and we added 1 ½ bathrooms. In addition, we did lots of work to the exterior including complete replacement of the back porch and side entrance, reclamation of the back yard, gutters, planter boxes, all new windows and doors, and paint. This house went from unlivable to a great downtown home that stays rented.
